About the Artist
Daniel Maczynski is inspired by nature, the humanities, and the sociopolitical processes taking place in the modern world. One of Poland's leading emerging artists, his oft-metaphoric oil paintings deftly combine elements of abstraction, cubism, and surrealism to depict transfigured portraits, menacing scenes, and imaginary landscapes reminiscent of Francis Bacon, Salvador Dalí and Roberto Matta. His deconstructed and sometimes grotesque forms convey the frenetic energy and inner turmoil of contemporary life, while his more serene and even romantic landscapes bely an undercurrent of sci-fi dread.
Maczynski's work has been widely exhibited in his home country, and several of his pieces are in the permanent collection of Colección Solo in Madrid. Popular at auctions, his painting Corporate Babble set a record at the 22nd Auction of Young Art in Warsaw. Daniel has been featured in Hi Fructose magazine and was one of the first artists selected for Saatchi Art's prestigious Invest In Art series. Slightly Subversive is proud to offer a number of his original works and limited-edition signed prints in our gallery.
